A pixel pet in the Claude Code status bar. It grows on every token you burn.

📁 side-project — node ◂ claude — 92×34

It reacts to how you code — every card below is real behavior.

It teases you

Idle chatter while you think.

It feeds on tokens

Every burn, a sparkle. Big burns, fireworks.

It worries about you

Hours of grinding → water break.

You can talk to it

/talktopet — it obeys, and answers back.

Scenes are alive too

City windows light up as you burn.

Type /CLIadd and the TOKIPET window opens. Click around — everything explains itself.

Your dog is already waiting under the input box.

A long session, exactly as the product renders it — MOMO the pig lives under the input box: she wanders, oinks, snacks, and turns back at the city. Click her.

Data
100% local, zero API calls.
Varies.
How do I install and launch it, exactly?
  1. Have Node.js 16+ (from nodejs.org, the LTS button).
  2. Run npm install -g tokipet. On a Mac this usually needs sudo npm install -g tokipet (type your system password).
  3. Run pet setup — never with sudo.
  4. Launching: the pet lives inside Claude Code. It will not appear in a plain terminal — open (or restart) Claude Code, and the pet renders in the status bar under the input box. Then /CLIadd to configure it.
Does it spend my tokens?

No. It passively reads the transcript files Claude Code already writes to ~/.claude/projects. No API calls, ever — zero tokens, zero dollars.

Does my code go anywhere?

Nothing leaves your machine. One local state file (~/.tokipet/state.json), no accounts, no network.

I've never used npm. What do I do?
  1. Install Node.js from nodejs.org — the LTS button, ordinary installer.
  2. Open a terminal (Mac: ⌘ Space, type “Terminal”).
  3. Run npm install -g tokipet, then pet setup. Restart Claude Code.
  4. Seeing EACCES: permission denied? Use sudo npm install -g tokipet — but never sudo for pet setup.
How is the token count calculated?

Input + output + cache reads + cache writes, summed from the day you installed. Cumulative for life — a new terminal never resets it.

How do badges work?

They track grind hours — time actively burning tokens (gaps over 5 minutes don't count). Tiers at 1h / 22h / 44h / 88h / 8888h, each with a fixed gift: cow, spider, seal, Saturn, apple core.

How do I switch pets, scenes, or languages?

Type /CLIadd in Claude Code — press 1–6 to adopt or toggle, 4 to cycle languages. The bar updates within a second.

My pet is asleep. Is it okay?

It lies down after ~30 quiet minutes and wakes at your next burn. You can also order a nap: /talktopet go sleep.

Can I uninstall it cleanly?

pet setup --remove (restores your Claude Code config), then npm uninstall -g tokipet. Delete ~/.tokipet if you want its memory gone too. It won't haunt your status bar. It might haunt you.
